Residential Aged Care Facility

What is it?

EngAGE: RACF provides aged care residents an avenue for fun and effective exercise program to assist with the physical, mental and social burdens of ageing.

EngAGE provides Exercise Physiology services working in conjunction with Universities and student practitioners.

This streamlined health care service delivery model provides increased contract time and supervised individual exercise sessions for aged care residents.

What are the benefits?

By participating in this program, aged care facilities and residents can benefit through:

  • Increased exposure to exercise expertise and increased physical activity

  • Improved physical capacity and mobility outcomes

  • Increased inter-generational social interaction and engagement

These benefits flow onto families and local communities and the improved quality of life and mobility of residents leads to greater engagement opportunities with families and aged care employees - increasing social connectedness.

The EngAGE program also benefits the health system as a whole; by improving the health of senior Australians in aged care facilities, there is a reduction in costs associated with health professional interactions, medications, and hospital readmissions.

This program also builds the local workforce by providing opportunities for exercise service providers, as well as work-integrated learning opportunities for students enrolled in an Exercise Physiology program.
